Activities

Activities Keep The Mind and Body Engaged

Frequent socialization and physical activity, both found in abundance at Bradley House, bring many benefits to our residents.

The activities program is dedicated to creating opportunities for residents to embark on new friendships and to share personal histories as they learn about and contribute to their new community.  The goal is to enliven daily lives while nourishing interests and awakening curiosity. Living in community offers endless opportunities to stay engaged and active, proven factors in well-being and health.

As a guideline, we structure activities around a concept known as “the eight dimensions of engagement” outlined below.

  • Lifelong Learning - this includes activities such as a report from a regular volunteer about her recent trip overseas, our weekly Brain Exercises, and book groups.
  • Health & Fitness - the residents have three exercise classes per week designed for all levels of mobility.
  • Entertainment & Fun - we have many musical performances each week, as well as readings, Bingo games, nightly movies, relaxing drives, and field trips to local events and attractions.

  • Connection - we offer regular times for the residents to come together and visit, or learn more about each other
  • Inspiration & Spirituality - each month we offer services based on resident interest, as well as weekly guided meditation.
  • Personal Achievement - this includes opportunities for the residents to share their life stories and accomplishments in discussion groups
  • Creative Expression - this includes activities such as our visit from the educational coordinator from the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center and regular craft classes
  • Civic Engagement - in addition to our weekly Current Events times, during which we discuss the news, we have special opportunities for civic engagement, such as making apple crisp for the Thanksgiving Community Meal in Brattleboro, or writing postcards for the Local Love Brigade
